It is effective against different types of bacteria such as Escherichia coli, Proteus species, S. aureus, Acinetobacter and Serratia species.
No, Alfakim cannot be taken with penicillin. Because penicillin inactivates the Alfakim by combining the beta-lactam ring of penicillin with an amino group of this drug to form amide which is biologically inactive. For this reason Alfakim should not be taken with penicillin. The chances of inactivation of this drug are higher in case of renal failure because in this case concentration of penicillin is higher in the kidney for a longer time as compared to the normal renal function.
Discontinuing Alfakim on your own can increase the chances of bacterial resistance and infection relapse. It is recommended that you always consult your doctor if you have decided to discontinue this medicine.
No, Alfakim is not available in tablet form. It is available in only injectable dosage form either given by intramuscularly or intravenously depends on patient condition or severity of infections.
Occasionally, Alfakim can cause drug-induced thrombocytopenia (blood clot formation in the vessel). However, if you experience severe thrombocytopenia after taking this medicine, please immediately seek medical help.
