Frequently asked Questions about Norvalette

Question almost 5 years ago

Does Norvalette make you sleepy?

Dr. Braj Bhushan Ojha BAMS , Gastroenterology, Dermatology, Psychiatry, Ayurveda, Sexology, Diabetology

Yes, Norvalette can make you sleepy because it crosses the blood-brain barrier (a membrane that prevents the drugs from entering into the brain). After entering into the brain this drug calms the brain by increasing the activity of inhibitory neurotransmitter gamma-aminobutyric acid (GABA) that results in drowsiness. It is the most common side effect of this medicine. Activities such as driving and operating heavy machinery should be avoided after taking this Norvalette to prevent accidents and injuries as it causes drowsiness.
