Exesin Information

Exesin (Exemestane) is an oral medication classified as an aromatase inhibitor. It is primarily used to treat hormone-receptor-positive breast cancer in postmenopausal women by reducing estrogen levels, which can fuel the growth of certain types of breast cancer.

Uses

Breast Cancer Treatment:

  • Early-stage breast cancer after initial treatment with tamoxifen.
  • Advanced breast cancer in postmenopausal women where tamoxifen or other therapies have failed.

Mechanism of Action
Exemestane irreversibly inhibits the aromatase enzyme, which is responsible for converting androgens to estrogens, thereby reducing estrogen levels and slowing the progression of estrogen-dependent cancer.
