Etbmed Information

Etbmed (Erlotinib) is a tyrosine kinase inhibitor primarily used to treat non-small cell lung cancer (NSCLC) and pancreatic cancer. It works by blocking the epidermal growth factor receptor (EGFR) pathway, thereby inhibiting cancer cell proliferation.

Uses

  1. Treatment of locally advanced or metastatic non-small cell lung cancer (NSCLC) with EGFR mutations.
  2. First-line treatment for pancreatic cancer, in combination with gemcitabine.

Erlotinib targets the epidermal growth factor receptor (EGFR), inhibiting its kinase activity, which disrupts cancer cell signaling pathways, leading to reduced tumor growth and metastasis.

Dosage and Administration

  • NSCLC: 150 mg orally, once daily on an empty stomach.
  • Pancreatic Cancer: 100 mg orally, once daily on an empty stomach, in combination with gemcitabine.
  • Dosages may vary based on clinical response and side effects. Always follow the physician’s instructions.

Side Effects

  • Common: Diarrhea, rash, nausea, fatigue, loss of appetite.
  • Serious: Interstitial lung disease, liver damage, gastrointestinal perforation.

Precautions

  1. Pregnancy: Avoid during pregnancy due to potential harm to the fetus.
  2. Liver/Kidney Disease: Use with caution in patients with hepatic or renal impairment.
  3. Interactions: Avoid strong CYP3A4 inducers (e.g., rifampin) and inhibitors (e.g., ketoconazole).
